Pre their season at the National Arts Festival, get to see The Belgium and Last Rounds at Alexander Upstairs this week. Starting times are 7pm and 9pm nightly, giving you time to grab a bite and a drink between shows.
The Belgian
“Sharp, funny and immensely entertaining. If you didn’t get tickets for Russell Brand, don’t worry, The Belgian will have you in stitches instead.” (Tracey Kim Saunders)
“Falling somewhere between a stand-up comedy show, an interior monologue, a Monty Python sketch and a lost Charlie Chaplin film, The Belgian is an unfiltered gaze into the mind of its peculiar performer, Gaëtan Schmid.” (Cape Times)
“… hilarious …” (Cue)
“… anarchistic …” (False Bay Echo)

Last Rounds
It’s 2am. The final bell for last orders has been rung. The Hopeless Modern Romantic sits at the dirty bar, stirring her whiskey with a straw, watching the door for him. She’s just a girl, sitting in a bar, waiting for a boy – a boy who she realises just may not arrive. Featuring Rebecca Makin-Taylor (Expectant) and written and directed by Tara Notcutt (The Three Little Pigs, Mafeking Road, …miskien), this will be the preview run before the show heads to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown as part of the Cape Town Edge.
A fast and dirty sexy comedy which can be described as Girls meets Notting Hill, with a dash of High Fidelity thrown in for good measure, Last Rounds is a biting look at love, whiskey, and good music.
