Artist Jill Trappler opened two pop up exhibitions and offered some words of wisdom about artists and art making.
Pop-Up Group Show @ Eclectica Modern Gallery
This exhibition showcases four artists uniquely different from each other – different to the eye, different in age, their intention with paint is different. Application, narrative, experience are all different, but they are all committed to the process, the journey of image making.
4 Artists : Hardy Botha, Sarah Danes-Jarrett, Lolly Hahn-Page and Janna Prinsloo
Hardy Botha weaves mythology into social commentaries, and in some of his oil paintings he sets up fantasy for us to muse in.
Lolly Hahn-Page captures landscapes with masterful brushstrokes, that speak of romantic innuendos. In some oils she questions our opportunistic behaviour towards nature.
Janna Prinsloo takes us on an exploration of our internal world, as we get drawn into her journey of landscapes on the canvas .
Sarah Danes-Jarrett paints huge expressionistic graphic portraits in oils.
In her opening speech, Jill Trappler summarized it beautifully : “Visual experiences are not easily captioned- like people; we paint about how we think and feel, we talk in our paintings about our sense of the world around us and within us. “
WHERE: Eclectica Modern Gallery, 9 Cavendish Street, Claremont, Cape Town 7700
WHEN: 22 November – 19 December 2014
Group Exhibition at Artsauce
This exhibition is in celebration of work made at the Artsauce Studio facilitated by Jill Trappler.
“Look around you and you will feel surprised, as much as the artist did when deciding to let the image go; it becomes autonomous, ready to show you, the audience, the unknown viewer. The work has a form in and of itself, like we do or try to.
There is a sense of danger in showing our work and in selecting work to put on your wall; this is because we reach beyond ourselves, have a new awareness and finer insight. There is great pleasure in removing the layers that inhibit us as we take the chance to have the conversation about looking at images and seeing with fresh eyes.” Jill Trappler
WHERE: Artsauce, 62 Roeland Street (Next to Vida e Cafe), Cape Town 8001
WHEN: 9h00 to 17h00 on weekdays and 9h00 to 13hoo on Saturdays.
Closed from Wed 24 December and reopens on Mon 5 Jan 2015. The exhibition closes 16 Jan 2015.
