Celebrating its first Christmas in its stylish new home, the V&A Waterfront’s Watershed will explode with festivities on Monday, 15 December, for the whole family.
The market will get into the spirit of the season with a programme of free musical performances as visitors browse one of the most impressive collections of art, craft and design wares around, or explore the dedicated Wellness area upstairs.
Home to some over 150 small businesses, the new Watershed space is perfectly designed to showcase the quality products all creatively designed, beautifully handcrafted and produced with the warmth and spirit of Africa. Fashion nestles comfortably alongside works of art, precision-made furniture, intricately crafted jewellery, rich textiles, soft furnishings, ceramics, accessories, contemporary curios and much, much more.
Beginning at 10am and running through the day until 9pm, Christmas at the Watershed has a musical line-up of local talent to entertain, enthral, and put everyone in the mood for the festive season. Starting with a choir of buskers at 10am, the day’s performers include the Natasha Otero Christmas Strings Duo, the Ballistic Brass Band (comprising of Delft Big Band members), Jeremy Olivier and Camilo Lombard’s Youth Christmas Choir, all performing at various points throughout the day almost until the close of the market.
The performers will not share a stage, but will instead either roam amongst the crowds as they perform, or will set up their performances in different areas of the V&A Waterfront Watershed to add an element of variety to the day.
No Christmas market, however, would be complete without some of the delicious treats fondly associated with the season. Favourite seasonal food and beverages will be on sale to tempt shoppers with delectable indulgences such as mince pies, cakes, cinnamon buns and gammon, to double-shot coffees, ice teas, and homemade ginger beer.
Craft creativity for Father Christmas and children
Children, too, are in for a delight, with Father Christmas making an appearance to decorate the Watershed’s big Christmas tree. Free art and crafts materials will be available at the Craft Table in the dedicated play area within the Watershed for children to unleash their creativity and help Father Christmas make crafty decorations to adorn the Watershed Christmas tree. Christmas Elves will also roam the halls with festive treats for children, bringing the fabled North Pole a little closer to home.
Father Christmas will join the festivities at 10am on the day, entertaining kids periodically until 5pm while their parents enjoy the festive atmosphere. Located within the Watershed dedicated play area, the Craft Table will be adjacent to the Art of the Brick, the world’s most popular LEGO® exhibition, which will also be open for the day. Tickets to the Art of the Brick exhibition can be purchased at Computicket.
