The fourth Ubuntu festival has the theme ‘Happy me, Happy you‘ and will embody the spirit of Ubuntu at the Maynardville Park, Wynberg on Human Rights Day, Saturday March 21.
Under the auspices of the SA Ubuntu Foundation (SAUF) with the Amy Biehl Foundation (ABF) as the beneficiary and with support from Sunlight, this brings the popular festival back after a two year absence.
A hot and happening concertis the main attraction for the day with headline act Mi Casa and supporting act of Chad Saaiman, who makes a welcome visit back to his home town, so who wouldn’t want to be there to enjoy the unique sounds of these hugely popular artists? A R20 donation to support the work of the Amy Biehl Foundation is the very small entrance fee for patrons (children under ten years enter free.)
With Bush Radio as a partner bringing music and fun to the people is an opportunity to connect, picnic in the beautiful grounds and take time out enjoying our diverse cultures. This is the objective and, supported by other top local acts and youth dancers, the festivities will have something for everyone.
Kicking off at 11am with a youth festival the pop concert will take the stage from 1pm with Mi Casa performing at 3.45pm.
Mi Casa’s second award winning album “Su Casa” has received much critical acclaim.The three members, Dr Duda (producer and club DJ), J-Something (vocalist and guitarist) and Mo-T (trumpeter) blend their musical talent to create a unique urban jazz sound. Warm house beat peppered with jazz trumpet and a fresh twist of soul, the Mi Casa sound recipe is rich and authentic.
Add to that pop up food trucks that will offer cultural food all day and both body and soul will be well fed! Gates will close at 6pm. Simply put – a fun day for the whole family, with food, dance, music and special children’s activities.

The Ubuntu Festival was traditionally held at St Georges Mall in Cape Town on Madiba’s July 18 birthday but this year has moved to the new date and venue to celebrate the human rights of everyone living in South Africa with this free cultural day. Gather friends and family and enjoy this very special day in a glorious environment.

All funds raised will go towards completing the renovations to the new home of the Amy Biehl Foundation. This multi-purpose facility will house skills and entrepreneurship workshops to empower the youth.
The SAUF presented the Ubuntu Festivals in 2010, 2011 and 2012 as part of the ABF awareness programme and this year managing director Kevin Chaplin has secured funding from Sunlight for the return of thispopular event.
