Jewish doctors made great contributions to the historic first heart transplant operationperformed by Dr Christiaan Barnard on the Jewish recipient Louis Washkansky. Busts of Jewish doctors carved by Dr Penn include, Prof Schrire; Widan plaque: tapestry by Leonora Kibel. An installation by Esther Surdut about the second heart transplant, including photo of medical team, stands in the entrance.
