One of the City’s most iconic venues, the Grand Parade, is set to see a burst of glitz and glamour when the Madame Zingara Company hosts their 16th birthday tour at the venue.

The Grand Parade spans an area of 15 900 m² and is made up of the trading area and the parking area which is 7 900 m². Madame Zingara has hired approximately 4 000 m² of the parking area from 5 June to 3 October 2015 for the upcoming tour and will include set build-up, event days and set break-down. The balance of the 3 900 m² will remain open space to be used by members of the public on a daily basis. T

‘We would like to assure residents that only the section hired by the applicant will be fenced off for their show. The trading area will not be affected and will continue to operate as normal. The successful negotiation with the Grand Parade Traders Association is an encouraging step towards making progress possible together. We welcome the anticipated increase in visitor numbers and the knock-on economic benefits to our informal trading sector based on the Grand Parade,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Economic Development, Councillor Garreth Bloor.

The City’s support for this event is dependent upon all the necessary regulations being met and permissions being acquired.

The Grand Parade also recently received a face-lift at a cost of approximately R1 million. The area was fitted with 21 Musco luminaires (high-mast energy saving lights) to improve public safety. Many residents make use of the Grande Parade as a thoroughfare at night and the installation of lighting is part of a commitment to building a safe city for residents.

MapMyWay says ‘welcome home Madame Zingara!’  We look forward to this imaginative, temporary re-design of an important  public space.
