The inaugural Cape Town Cup will set the Mother City alight with two international teams challenging two PSL teams in a two-day double-header football extravaganza.
The City of Cape Town announced the details for the Cape Town Cup soccer tournament, which will see host team Ajax Cape Town welcome Portuguese team Sporting Clube de Portugal, Crystal Palace FC and Super Sport United.
Set to take place at the iconic Cape Town Stadium on 24 and 26 July 2015, the tickets will be made available via Computicket from 21 June 2015 onwards.
WHAT & WHEN:
A draw was done to confirm that the first game on Friday 24 July 2015, which kicks off at 17:45, will see Crystal Palace take on Super Sport United, followed by Sporting Clube de Portugal and Ajax Cape Town going head-to-head at 20:15 in the second match of the evening.
Sunday’s action (26 July 2015) will start at 13:00, with the losing team of Friday’s first double-header challenging the losing team of the second match.
The final, featuring both winners from the games played on Friday, will take place at 15:30 on Sunday 26 July 2015. There will be no extra match time so if there is a stalemate after regulation time, a penalty shootout will decide the champions.
‘The City of Cape Town is delighted to host the inaugural Cape Town Cup in our beautiful city. We look forward to welcoming the teams and their many fans. Our support for the tournament is part of the City’s strategy to position Cape Town as the events capital of Africa. Events play a pivotal role in generating visitor expenditure and growing our local economy. In addition, soccer is a unifying sport and events like these bring residents from all walks of life together. We call on Capetonians to come out in their numbers to support the event,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Economic Development, Councillor Garreth Bloor.
With ticket prices ranging from R200 to R400 for the double-headers on both Friday and Sunday, host team Ajax Cape Town is looking forward to die-hard soccer fans attending in their thousands.
With everyone welcome, it’s bound to be football at its very best in this pre-season tournament.
