To celebrate Women’s Day and unite the Mother City join the Women’s Day March on 9 August 2015.
The Walk: From District Six Homecoming Centre, Buitenkant Street to Artscape.
Gather at 11am for blessings by women faith leaders. Walk starts promptly at 12 noon
All are welcome: women, men, children, abled and differently abled.
The Walk will be followed by a short Open Mic session at Artscape.

Following the success last year of WOMAN ZONE’s Women’s Humanity Walk – this time it’s going to be even bigger and stronger! As part of the Artscape Women’s Humanity Arts Festival, the walk will be led by Acting CEO of Artscape, Marlene le Roux who will be riding on a horse and cart (courtesy of the Cart Horse Protection Society).
Starting at the District Six Homecoming Centre walkers should gather at 11am to leave at NOON. An interfaith blessing will precede the walk. Music and speeches will welcome the walkers as they finish at the Artscape Piazza. An Open Mic Story Share as well as an opportunity of recording in writing what being a woman in Cape Town means to you will be a part of the proceedings!
Alongside le Roux will be two Dutch cyclists, youth ambassadors Jilt van Schayik and Teun Meulepas, who have cycled from Amsterdam to Cape Town as part of an initiative called “Building Bridges” a project that partners with United Nations Youth, UN Women, UNASA and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ‘Building Bridges’ team focuses on grassroots young people and women and aims to see them reaching their full potential. More information about their journey visit.
Woman Zone will also be launching their book, Being a woman in Cape Town: Telling your story ‘on Friday 7 August at 17h30 at the Woman Zone hub with readings from some of the writers featured in the book.
The 2015 Artscape Women/ Humanity Arts Festival will end on a high note on Sunday 9 August with the Humanity lunch sponsored by 48 hours newspaper and a Gospel Concert. The line-up will include artist like Neville D, Rouchelle Liedemann, Tertian Hendricks, Michelle Botha, Anile Tame. For more information on the Artscape Humanity Festival visit
