It’s Women’s Month and City Walk Saturdays on 15 August is rallying its efforts around activities, events, projects and promotions that elevate and celebrate our mothers, sisters, daughters and girlfriends.
Beacons of strength and nurturing, the women of our city continue to work tirelessly for themselves, families and communities, defying the continued social and gender challenges of the world today.
Join the initiatives listed in the evolving citizen-sourced programme, which Cape Town Partnership are updating on an ongoing basis. Here’s one initiative we would like to focus on:
Being A Woman In Cape Town Walk powered by VoiceMap
Celebrate the women who have shaped the Mother City on an audio walk guided by Nancy Richards, founder of Woman Zone, an organisation bringing women of all cultures together. The walk will set off from mother-and-daughter-run Charly’s Bakery at 11.30am, making its way to St George’s Cathedral to honour the Black Sash, before stopping off at another female-owned establishment, the Mogalakwena Gallery. Here participants will pick up a bead and carry it to the walk’s endpoint, Krotoa Place, where the Khoi woman known by the names Krotoa and Eva, will be honoured. Finally, a tea and chat will be enjoyed at Baran’s coffee shop.
