It’s almost time to drop anchor in Simon’s Town for the annual South African Navy Festival that will be taking place from 21 to 24 April 2016.
All routes will lead to Simon’s Town later this month for an event synonymous with the Cape Town landscape: the South African Navy Festival. This popular festival attracts over 100 000 visitors every year and gives would-be maritime explorers a peek into the naval world.

You don’t have to be an avid seafarer to enjoy what’s on offer as the festival never disappoints the thousands of people who attend every year. I must commend the South African Navy for putting their best foot forward and executing all activities and displays with such precision every year,’ says the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Economic Development, Councillor Garreth Bloor.
Festival-goers can look forward to a full weekend of activities – one of the firm favourites being getting on board and exploring the impressive South African Navy warships and submarines. The range of other activities includes, among others:
- tug-boat rides
- a flea market
- a children’s corner and activities
- navy band performances
- German navy ships and submarines open to the public for viewing
- an anti-piracy display
- an air and sea search and rescue display
- an exhibition displaying navy, air force and army paraphernalia
- a night gunnery shoot.
