It’s FMR Coastal Cleanup time again! Help seal a cleaner coastal deal!
Fine Music Radio invites FMR listeners to join them on Hout Bay Beach on Saturday the 16th of September from 10:00 until 12:00.
Hout Bay
With no dangerous currents, Hout Bay beach is one of the safest swimming areas in the peninsula. Amongst other factors, the bustling activity next to the coastline has contributed to the abundance of plastic and waste debris. With approximately 5000 Cape Fur Seals living nearby on Duiker Island, the pollution is problematic.
Active Citizenship
According to FMR’s Station Manager, Mark Jennings, it’s kudos to FMR listeners, “The last two Coastal Cleanups have proven the active citizenship of our listeners. They care about the environment and are prepared to make a difference! We are confident that the Hout Bay Coastal Cleanup will make an impact on this coastline”.
John Kieser, Sustainability Manager of Plastics SA concurs, “Hout Bay beach has been under the microscope for a long period due to waste from the harbour finding its way to the beach and as a favourite tourist visit site it always needs a cleanup.”
WHERE: meet on the beach next to the Mariner’s Wharf parking area. Just look for the FMR and Pick n Pay banners.
Pick n Pay will provide refreshments and Plastics SA will provide bags and gloves. But it’s probably a good idea to bring your own gardening gloves too. Wear a hat and plenty of sunscreen, and maybe a jacket in case it’s a bit cool.
