Some of us wonder what ever happened to the fairytales and some of us, well… never believed in them in the first place. This whimsical and quirky song revue depicts the journey of two women (both played by Titilayo Adedokun) who evolve through their personal experiences of love, its challenges and its consequences. A collection of witty and thought-provoking songs that will leave you laughing, crying and oh-so identifying with the characters.

OMG Quiz Night has crash landed their trivia machine right into the belly of Alexander Bar. Every Wednesday the cosy chairs and tables of the bar get turned into your throne from which you will enter into a battle of the minds. But don’t start googling general knowledge trivia answers just yet…. Among the ‘what is the capital of…’ this quiz has a plethora of hands-on, get-your-tastebuds-guessing, blind-fold-necessary questions. This is not just any games night, this is OMG QUIZ NIGHT AT ALEXANDER BAR. Minimum of 1 person per team (note: your name will automatically be entered as Han Solo) up to 6 players in a team. The game starts at 7:30pm sharp and finishes at 9:30pm. Please be aware that portions of the quiz will be filmed for use on Channel24.

It debuted at the 2017 National Arts Festival in Grahamstown 2017, it also featured at the Cape Town Fringe Festival in September 2017. Cohen – A Tribute
“Cohen – A Tribute” is an exploration of the life and works of the late Leonard Cohen. It features his music and poetry interspersed with anecdotes from his life and other literary writings. You can expect early hits such as Suzanne and So long Maryanne, the haunting Famous Blue Raincoat and Who By Fire?, lighter works such as Tower of Song as well as pieces from his final album You Want It Darker? – released just before his death. The text for the show was researched and compiled by Perran Hahndiek and is performed by Dave Starke.

(W)asem is ‘n eenmanstuk werkswinkel produksie wat handel oor die speler en regisseur se eie ervarings met diskriminasie. Deur die allegorie van asem en sy vele vlakke in die mens word gedigte en stories verweef om twee kulture, twee velklere en een seksualiteit van twee jong mans weer te gee. Die gehoor word op ‘n treinrit geneem deur ons kleurvolle tog donker land, ‘n treinrit wat jou sal laat voel, skaterlag en nadink oor die voorregte, boksies, woorde en persepsies wat ons skei as mense.
Albertze and Makapan were motivated to create this piece after both of them were involved in a racist incident in Stellenbosch earlier this year. In the viral video we see Makapan with a bloodied nose, declare that he had just been punched in the face by a young white male. Said male had used a racial slur against Makapan and his friends and when confronted about it, became enraged. Despite not provoking this individual, Makapan still received some backlash on social media, prompting him and Albertze to question the validity of one’s voice in these instances Thus began their allegory of feeling breathless. Voiceless. “Waar is my asem?” The production explores various occasions in which the writers felt they didn’t have a voice and tell their individual stories with the help of a few balloons. The play is full of dark humour, addressing social injustices and highlighting the importance of expressing yourself no matter how impossible it may feel. This mainly Afrikaans production by Du Toit Albertze and Terence Makapan mixes white Afrikaner culture with coloured Afrikaner culture.

But if you love the Kardashians, candid CNN interviews, gold (everywhere), spelling womxn with an “x” and smashing the patriarchy one rape-culture-drenched mythological origin story at a time then this might just be your cup of tea. Drawing from the Greek mythologies of Persephone, Medusa and other not so well-known characters, Nasty Womxn is a collection of sketches about contemporary womxn just trying to get from day to day.
