The Cape Town Concert Series hope that you are as excited as they are about the artists and concerts planned for 2018 Season 2 at the Baxter Concert Hall.

“We are particularly excited to have cellist Raphael Wallfisch play for our Celebrity Recital in November which helps us fund-raise towards the year ahead”, says Loiuse Howlett, General Manager, Cape Town Concert Series.

“We will also be collaborating for the first time with the Cape Town Baroque Festival in September.

We are happy to be able to finally present pianist Alessandro Taverna in August, whose original tour was unfortunately cancelled at short notice in 2011, and in October we feature the violinist Rachel Lee Priday who last came to South Africa at short notice to fill in for an ailing musician. This time she will also be performing with the Johannesburg and Durban Philharmonic orchestras and performing a special exclusive recital for the Cape Town Concert Series.”

Alessandro Taverna’s “music making stimulates the senses as does a visit to his native Venice”, and gives “rise to a feeling of wonderment” is how British music critics describe this Italian pianist. When he performed Chopin’s First Piano Concerto in the final round at the 2009 Leeds International Piano Competition, “the world was suddenly suffused with grave beauty: flawless minutes of poetry”, said the UK newspaper The Independent.

Critics have praised her “dazzling, forceful technique,” “rich, mellifluous sound,” and “silvery fluidity.” Combining a fierce intelligence with an imaginative curiosity, her wide-ranging repertoire and eclectic programming reflect a deep fascination with literary and cultural narratives, as an artist who seeks contemporary resonances with the masterworks of the past.
