Cape Town named “greatest city on Earth” for the sixth year in a row!
New York. Tokyo. Venice… None of them can hold a candle to Cape Town, after the Mother City was once again named the greatest city on Earth, writes Tom Head in The South African.
The Mother City just makes it look so easy, right? After a huge poll of 45 000 people was conducted by UK publication The Telegraph, one clear winner emerged in the “greatest city on Earth” category: Cape Town, take a bow – you have every right to feel smug about this one.
CPT ended up besting the likes of Tokyo in second (who needs bullet trains when you’ve got Metrorail?) and Venice in seventh (even with all that water, eh?) on the list, which was published on Sunday. The southern-Spanish city of Seville has moved up nine places to fourth, whereas Vancouver completes the top three.

Why Cape Town is the greatest city on Earth
What can you say about Cape Town that hasn’t already been said? Well, we believe it doesn’t get enough praise for its versatility. The ability to enthral the young and entertain the old in equal measure it what keeps it at the top of The Telegraph’s charts.
The Mother City is famous for many opulent pursuits, but you don’t have to be minted to get carried away at one of the region’s premier wine farms. Whether you stay close to the city in Constantia, or branch out to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, a good time will be had by all.
