Hamilton Gallery presents “Journeys” – a selection of ceramic work and oil paintings by Helen Treweek.

Helen Treweek is a South African artist and designer based in the East Griqualand countryside of Kwa-Zulu Natal. She has had numerous exhibitions throughout Natal and has a permanent gallery space just outside of Kokstad. Inspired by her surroundings and travels throughout Africa and Asia, Helen’s works are a fusion of the influences of these places.

The ceramic platters on display are each unique, sensitively detailed and wildly imaginative. A plethora of textures adorn painted surfaces in various styles and techniques, inspired by Helen’s experiences while travelling. These pieces can be displayed as a table piece or hung up to adorn a wall. Her oil paintings on canvas are as appealing and have a similar uplifting quality.

Helen’s work often has an authentic yet nostalgic African feel – fusing unexpected design elements with sentimentality. Such synthesis will appeal to those with the South African air, smells, bugs, and wildlife etched in their memory.

Nestled between quiet Chelsea Village and bustling Wynberg, Hamilton Gallery & Showroom is a viewing platform for the creations of artists and artisans. If you have an eye for interiors, a passion for art, and if a tranquil setting strikes your fancy, be sure to visit the gallery and this remarkable show.
