Whether it’s prepping for first dates (stressful), going to the gynae (very stressful), learning how to give head (extremely stressful and a little scary), trying to tell your parents that you’ve had sex and may or may not be pregnant (incredibly stressful and exceptionally scary) or fighting for the attention from the very cute older combat coach (problematic, but we’ll talk about it), nothing is off the table for this Under 17 Grecian Martial Hand-to-Hand Combat Squad.

About the Chronicles of Athena, Babes Team
Dara Beth is first and foremost an angry, Jewish feminist. Dara completed UCT’s Theatre and Performance programme last January (for which they received the class medal for theatre-making, the Ruth Peffer’s Prize and distinctions in Drama). Since graduating, Dara has written several plays, their most recent production being “Nasty Womxn” which has had three sold-out runs at the Alexander Bar. Dara has also written and performed in ‘Just a Song and a Dance’ with co-performer Sharyn at the Alexander Bar and National Arts Festival in Makhanda. Dara is also a part of The Furies, a womxn-centric artistic co-op with whose help they will be staging their new production, “The Chronicles of Athena, Babes”.
Naledi Majola is an actor and performance-maker who completed her BA in Theatre & Performance at the University of Cape Town in 2017. She is a performer on stage and screen, having recently played Tranio in 2018’s Maynardville production of ‘The Taming of the Shrew’, directed by Tara Notcutt as part of South Africa’s first ever all-female cast in a professional Shakespeare production. Later in 2018, she performed in ‘STREAM’, a multimedia performance work led by Jennifer Steyn at the Baxter Theatre. In her own work, she is currently interested in the complexities of contemporary identity and belonging specifically regarding blackness and Africanness, working with an interdisciplinary performance-as-research methodology. Her latest design is for ‘Tales From the Garden’, a one-womxn show written and performed by Ameera Conrad and directed by Kathleen Stephens which debuted at the Baxter Theatre and was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival earlier this year.
Michaela Moses is an actress, dancer and voice-over artist who recently graduated from the University of Cape Town, with a BA Theatre and Performance degree, specializing in acting. Her passion for performing started with a nine year long career in Ballroom and Latin American dancing. Michaela appeared on Kyknet’s ‘Die Laaste Wals’, SABC’s ‘Expresso Show’ and ‘Hectic-Nine 9’. Michaela recently did a tour of Western Cape schools, performing Afrikaans books with Boek Buddies.
Sesanē Sealy is a performer, voice actor and writer whose diverse background has influenced every aspect of their work. From a very young age, Sesanē has had a great love for storytelling and explores this passion through both writing and acting. This lead them to study a degree in Theatre and Performance at the University of Cape Town, from which they recently graduated.
Jade Herbert is a born and raised South African actor. She graduated from City Varsity with a Bachelor’s Degree in Acting. During her tertiary education she wrote, directed, and performed in her one woman show “BathTime” which tackled her own personal journey through what coloured identity actually is. She also wrote, co-directed, and performed in “Bus Bingo”, a show that shed light on different personalities and different forms of harassment within the public transport system of Cape Town.
Despite much of her younger life being devoted to the stage, The Chronicles of Athena, Babes marks Thandi Wiggill’s first professional performance. After years of drama eisteddfods, school productions, and examinations through LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art), she started a BA at the South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance (AFDA) focusing on stage and screen acting.Her interest in better understanding the human condition and her desire to hold space now draws her to the field of psychology.
