Ebony/Curated have an exciting program of exhibitions and panel discussions taking place at their Bordeaux House Gallery as part of Art Franschhoek 2019.

Mark Rautenbach and Sibusiso Duma exhibitions open Saturday 26 October at 12:00

‘Underpinnings’ – Mark Rautenbach

Mark Rautenbach’s latest body of work looks at unseen forces and tensions which are inside, beneath, behind and between visible things. (See photo above) Materially, this is expressed by securing, stretching and suspending fine, colourful hand-knitted circular fabrics attached by small gold safety pins. These materials have no intrinsic value and as separate objects they go largely unnoticed. However, when combined in such a manner, they give form to something striking, complex, vital, and compelling

‘Izixazululo (Solutions)’ – Sibusiso Duma

Ebony/Curated, Sibusiso Duma

Sibusiso Duma

Sibusiso Duma is searching for solutions to his life and environment and through this investigation, he shares the stories of his childhood, his social opinions and the beliefs of his culture.
“His treatment of surface, subject, space and colour is unique in that other issues are not stated directly but are alluded to, thus creating an element of intrigue and wonder” – Gabi Ngcobo, ‘Revisions’ 2006
This is Duma’s first Solo Exhibition in the Western Cape since 2008.

Panel Discussion – ‘Why We Collect’ on Sunday 27th October at 12pm

Phillippa Duncan, Hayden Proud and Veronique Susman discuss what motivates the collector and why they collect. This discussion is seen from the perspective of the advisor, the museum curator and the private collector. Hoosein Mahomed will moderate the panel. There will be an opportunity for questions and audience participation.
Numbers are strictly limited to 60. Please reply to info@ebonycurated.com to save your seat.
