The Two Oceans Aquarium welcomes this 2020 festive fun season with extended hours, underwater fun and a great competition. From 15 to 24 December, the Aquarium will give away an annual membership each day, and from 26 December to 10 January, it will extend its opening hours and will welcome visitors from 09h00 till 19h00.
Win an Aquarium annual membership
Visit the Aquarium between 15 and 24 December and stand a chance to win an Aquarium annual membership every day. Membership to the Aquarium allows for unlimited visits during the year of the membership, discounts at the Aquarium Gift Shop and Bootlegger Coffee Company, as well as exclusive members-only events. Memberships also make great gifts, offering adventure, discovery and added learning opportunities. Details on how to enter the competition will be available when visiting the Aquarium between 15 and 24 December.
Extended Opening Hours
The Aquarium offers visitors extra time to experience the underwater world. From 26 December until 10 January, the Aquarium’s operating hours will be extended until 19h00 – this is an extra hour to experience all the Aquarium has to offer. During the festive season, the Aquarium will continue to keep strict Covid-19 protocols in place. To this end, it is advisable to visit during the traditional “low tide” period, before the usual marked increase in visitors from 26 December. Early morning or late afternoon visits are also recommended for a tranquil and leisurely stroll among the aquatic wonders.
The Aquarium’s mascots will roam throughout the galleries, making for great photo opportunities, while Scuba Claus has been called out of hibernation to make some guest appearances in the I&J Ocean Exhibit.
As always, visitors are encouraged to tag the Aquarium’s social media channels on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram in their photos. And once the visit is over, stop in at Bootlegger Coffee Company for a bite to eat with the splendid view over the V&A Marina and Table Mountain – there is plenty of outdoor seating and entertainment from the resident Cape fur seals.
The events of this past year have forced everyone to re-evaluate how they will spend their festive season. This has however not changed the fact that the Two Oceans Aquarium has always been a place of great exploration and discovery. In November 2020, the Aquarium celebrated its 25th year as a Cape Town icon, and during this time it has proudly showcased to, and educated its visitors about, the marine life found off the southern African coast.
From the ever-popular large exhibits – the Save Our Seas Foundation Shark Exhibit, the I&J Ocean Exhibit and the Kelp Forest Exhibit – to the comical penguins, mystical seahorses and a myriad of other animals, the Aquarium has been a place of wonder for generations past, and will continue to be so for generations to come.
