CTABF 24 – 26 September 2021

The second edition of the Cape Town Art Book Fair (CTABF) taking place over 24 – 26 September 2021, celebrates the visual arts, art publishing and the broader creative community.

CTABF brings together a broad range of art books, independently published works and educational publications from South Africa and abroad. Monographs on artists, exhibition catalogues, experimental and artist books, art historical publications, as well as new, old, rare and out of print books will all be on how and available to purchase.

Cape Town Art Book Fair Talks Programme

The Fair is complemented by a full programme of interesting talks and a book launch by various writers, artists and academics.
The programme includes a conversation between artist Penny Siopis and writer and academic Pumla Dineo Gqola on Shame and Shadow Shame Again by Siopis and Gqola’s new book, Female Fear Factory. Sean O’Toole will also be launching his book, Irma Stern: African in Europe – European in Africa, on Friday, 24 September where he will be in conversation with Sinazo Chiya. Space for the talks are limited, therefore booking is essential. Bookings can be made On-line.

Leading up to the fair, nine artists will participate in Zine Space, a new initiative by Norval Foundation in collaboration with Dream Press. Githan Coopoo, Brett Charles Seiler, Anico Mostert, Gerald Genie, Louise Nöthling, Nathaniel Sheppard III, Neeske Alexander, Siphumelele Gumede and Wessel Mostert will each create an art zine which will be sold at the Fair.

The CTABF Kids Nook includes special readings by artist Georgina Gratrix and Norval Foundation Education Coordinator, Lindsay Hendricks. There will also be a colouring in and activity corner for all kids to enjoy.

Cape Town Art Book Fair is supported by a range of galleries and organisations, including Lovedale Press, Stevenson, Clarke’s Bookshop, Blank Projects, THK, SMAC, Goodman Gallery, Irma Stern Museum, District Six Museum, David Krut Bookstore, Oath Magazine, Dream Press and more.

The event celebrates and supports the arts and arts community, aiming to create an inclusive and accessible space. Cape Town Art Book Fair and the associated programming is free and will be taking place in Norval Foundation’s Atrium. Entrance to Norval Foundation’s exhibitions and sculpture garden is free for members. Norval Foundation’s Annual Access Membership continues to be available for purchase for a reduced rate of R 120.
