A Trio of Duos featuring pianist Megan-Geoffrey Prins in collaboration with violinist Annien Shaw is the next concert of the Cape Town Concert Series on October 23.
The lush programme includes 3 Impromptus Op.40 by Ferdinand David, Violin Sonata by Leoš Janáček and Sonata No. 3, Op. 45 by Edward Grieg.
The concert takes place on Saturday 23rd October at 11am in the Baxter Concert Hall. The concert will be just over 1 hour in length and you are invited to stay in the hall directly after the concert for a short in conversation with Annien and Megan where they will talk more about the music and answer questions from the audience.
Annien Shaw is an accomplished violinist and chamber musician, having graduated from the University of Stellenbosch while consecutively completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Solo performance (cum laude) under Jan Repko from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester UK. In 2019 Annien was awarded a PhD in Performance Practice from the University of Cape Town under the guidance of Farida Bacharova and Rebekka Sandmeier. Annien was a member of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra for many years and is often seen performing with the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra. She is also the founder of the Flat Mountain Project – a team of skilled professional musicians, based mostly in Cape Town, who come together to collaborate on exciting projects, showcasing modern and experimental music within the classical music genre.
Megan-Geoffrey Prins, from Riversdale, South Africa, has performed as soloist and collaborative artist in North America, Europe, Africa, and Hong Kong. Prins featured in various local and international piano competitions, including the Honens International Piano Competition, the Hong Kong International Piano Competition, the UNISA National and International Piano Competitions, and the Midwest International Piano Competition. In 2019, Prins was named the Standard Bank Young Artist for Music. During Stellenbosch University’s centennial celebrations, Prins was listed among the one hundred most notable graduates from the institution.
Prins currently serves as full-time piano lecturer on the faculty of the University of Pretoria: School of the Arts.
