The Cape Town Art Weekend arrives with a bang! In celebration of arts in the city, the inaugural Cape Town Art Weekend will take place from Friday, 5 November through Sunday, 7 November 2021. The weekend will see organisations extend their opening hours simultaneously for a special programme of exhibitions, events and other exciting offerings.
Cape Town Art Weekend is a collaborative initiative launched to invite existing and new audiences back into the city’s art spaces.
Organisations from across the city’s arts ecology will participate in the three-day festival, including art centres, commercial galleries, artist studios, museums and foundations. Participants include A4 Arts Foundation, ArtThrob, Association for Visual Arts, blank projects, Church Projects, Digging Deep Entertainment and Planet Earth Music, EBONY/CURATED, Eclectic Contemporary, Goodman Gallery, The Hoodshed, Norval Foundation, Shakes Mbolekwana, Lesole Tauatswala and Associates, SMAC Gallery, South Atlantic Press, Soldiers of Informative Arts, StateoftheART Gallery, Stevenson, THEFORTH, UCT Irma Stern Museum, The Upheaval Utterance through Zealous art (UUZ), WALL, WHATIFTHEWORLD and Zeitz MOCAA.
Some institutional highlights of Cape Town Art Weekend include
- new exhibitions by Irma Stern at Norval Foundation,
- Johannes Phokela at Zeitz MOCAA, and
- Lindokhule Sobekwa and Mikhael Subotzky at A4 Arts Foundation, among others.
Zeitz MOCAA will be hosting the inaugural Cape Town Art Weekend Opening Event on Friday
5 November from 6 to 8 pm. Tickets are limited to 100 people on a first-come, first-served basis via Webtickets.
