The Eternal Scholar, an exhibition of photographs by Arnold Castle, opened at the South African Jewish Museum on Sunday 31 July to a large and very appreciative audience. Daughter, Elana Castle, and Museum Director, Gavin Morris, provide us with interesting insights to the exhibition on the Sanlam Arts Round Up.

As Elana Castle explains, her father, Arnold was not trained as a professional photographer, but when he discovered the medium, this became his lifelong passion. His interest in people made him focus on portraiture and his keen eye was always on the look out for people he wanted to capture on film.
Gavin Morris feels that the selection of photographs for The Eternal Scholar captures a time – people in the 1970’s and !980’s.
Take your time to walk through the exhibition and also note the professional recognition that Arnold Castle achieved.
