Poignant, Evocative and Entertaining Two-hander!
Fordsburg’s Finest at Pieter Toerien’s Theatre On The Bay is a play by Paul Slabolepszy about two people whom, having long walked on firm ground, now find that they cannot take its firmness for granted.
In this uplifting play, Fordsburg’s Finest, Slabolepszy depicts an empowered and impassioned woman as the focus of his tale, while taking the audience on a nostalgic journey of recognition, sensitivity and insight relating to the return of Thandi, from an American exile to South Africa.
Paul Slabolepszy is a well-known, award-winning South African playwright who holds the ability to reflect an authentic South African landscape, with its turbulent political background, vibrant cultures and inhabitants, and to evoke empathy for all of his diverse characters. Chi Mhende, plays the role of the South African born woman, returning to reconnect to the roots she abandoned as a child, when he parents left for the United States after being forced out of Ford’sburg when it was declared for whites only under the Group Areas Act in the 1950s
