Ndiza Gallery, on Harbour Island in Gordon’s Bay, has a Youth Day initiative and Michele Sinclair tells us about their outreach to young artists to provide feedback and a welcoming space to exhibit.
Listen to the Sanlam Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm every Friday at 17h30
Michele Sinclair, Owner of Ndiza, a relatively young gallery, walks us through the gallery space with its special location at Krystal Beach Hotel – and that is open to the public 24/7!
Young people, Michele believes, are being sidelined, and Ndiza has reached out to schools in the community to encourage learners to bring their work to the gallery today and get feedback, assistance and encouragement from a panel of artists and art teachers. The panel will make a selection that will be featured in a forthcoming exhibition. Over the weekend you should still see some of the work that has been brought in to the gallery.
This outreach also helps breakdown the walls and promote the gallery as a warm, welcoming and inclusive space for all – young and old, established and new.
One of the local, young artists, currently on exhibition is Wellington Moya – see photo above. Michele gives us some background to Moya, who lives in Lawandle, and what informs his powerful work.
Congratulations to Michele Sinclair and Ndiza Gallery om this Youth Day initiative!
