Jesse Ede takes us on a ‘cosmic trajectory’ as he talks us through Of Space and Time, his solo exhibition at Southern Guild.
Listen to the Sanlam Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm every Friday at 17h30
Jesse starts off this conversation on the Sanlam Arts Round Up with an explanation of the term ‘functional art’, which he refers to as ‘collectable design’. Essentially these are furniture pieces that are also art objects.
Materiality is an important issue and stone, bronze and aluminium are his personal favourites. Cape heritage stones are his focus – these being Table Mountain Sandstone, Malemesbury slate and granite. With bronze, he has developed what he refers to as an open cast method of casting.
The exhibition is made up of five pieces, but also needs to be seen as one piece as well, as the work is both independent and unified. The exhibition is one experience with several interacting conversations that takes you on a cosmic trajectory.
His inspiration is space and time, the nature of materials and circles within space.
The good news is that Jesse Ede is doing a walk-about on Saturday 7 October at 11:00. You can RSVP HERE On Saturday 9 September at 11:00 there will be a walk about of the solo exhibition by Kamyar Bineshtarigh – 9 Hopkins – RSVP HERE  | See also Kamyar Bineshtarigh & Jesse Ede – Opening of 2 solo exhibitions
