The final work by David Walters, the well known ceramic artist, who passed away in 2022, will be auctioned as a fundraiser for the Ceramics South Africa Benevolent Fund at the Westlake Golf Club on Saturday 10 February at 5pm. On the Sanlam Arts Round Up, daughter Sarah Walters, who runs her gallery and studio in Newlands Village, tells us about this entertaining fundraising event.

Sarah Walters comes from a family of potters. Her maternal grandmother was a potter, her father David Walters a well known South African ceramic artist and now his daughter has established the Sarah Walter studio and gallery. She is the 3rd generation of potters.
The idea behind organising this Social Event on Saturday 10th was both to honour David and also to fundraise for the Benevolent Fund of the Ceramics South Africa Western Cape Region, which supports potters in need. Sarah decided that his final works, all in porcelain should be sold in this way to honour David’s legacy and support a good cause. There are about 20 works and the idea is to give everyone an offer to bid as much as they can. There will be a box for each piece, and you drop in your bid.
The Social Event at the Westlake Golf Club is open to all. No need to RSVP, but you can call Sarah for more information – see info below. You will meet the potting community, have fun and enjoy snacks too.
And cherry on the top, well known stand-up comic Nik Rabinowitz will be there to entertain you. Nik is the son of another legendary South African ceramic artist, Hyme Rabinowitz.
