Two Oceans Aquarium celebrates World Ocean Day from 1-15 June 2024

Celebrate World Ocean Day on 8 June and throughout the year!

The Two Oceans Aquarium is celebrating World Ocean Day, 08 June 2024, with a multitude of exciting and educational activities running between 1 and15 June 2024. There are inside and outside events for all ages, with book readings, film screenings, a rocky shore explore, Trash Bash beach cleanup and a speaker night with renowned icthyologist Professor Mike Bruton.

What’s On?

Children can look forward to book readings at the I&J Ocean Exbibit where they will follow the adventures of The Little Optimist and the Monster (1-14 June) and Sandi and the Salty Sea Dogs (15-17 June). You can catch these incredible stories at the Aquarium throughout the two-week ocean celebration at 10h45 at the I&J Ocean Exhibit. Children can also enjoy the daily puppet shows in the I&J Children’s Play Centre at 10h30, 13h30 and 15h30.

Don’t forget to visit all the exhibits and meet the animals who are ocean celebration ambassadors everyday at the Two Oceans Aquarium.

Adults and children alike will enjoy the family focused Rocky Shore Explore rockpooling event at Dalebrook Beach on World Ocean Day, 08 June, from 10h00-12h00. This outdoor ocean connection event promises a fun day out with the fresh sea air running through your hair. Two Oceans Aquarium staff will be at the rockpool to help you explore the diverse marine life that False Bay has to offer. Engage your curiosity and ask them all your rockpool questions.

Come and join the Trash Bash team for a special beach cleanup at Monwabisi beach on Saturday 15 June from 09h00-11h00. What better way to round off the ocean celebration than doing your part in keeping our beaches rubbish free! Bring your bucket, reusable gloves, friends and family, and enjoy a morning of fun while making a difference.

There are some fascinating events adults too. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to get your ticket to attend a talk by the renowned scientist and educator, Professor Mike Bruton on Friday 14 June 2024. This intimate evening event will focus on his memoir When I was a Fish and will be hosted in the Two Oceans Aquarium’s Auditorium. Guests will receive welcome drinks and will have ”after hours” access to explore the Aquarium exhibits. Tickets are priced at R250 per person and are sure to sell out fast. As an added bonus for your Aquarium visit on World Ocean Day (and on 09 June), the Two Oceans Aquarium will be screening the mesmerising Sounds of the Ocean film – a production of Embodied Sounds. Celebrate with the Aquarium during your visit by treating yourself to 30mins of complete ocean immersion through sound. Screenings will take place in the Auditorium at the following times: 08 June 10h00 – 10h30, 14h00-14h30, 16h00-16h30; and on 09 June 10h00-10h30, 16h30-17h00.

Fine Music Radio will be broadcasting their morning and afternoon shows at the I&J Ocean Exhibit on World Oceans Day. Make sure you say hello during your visit or tune in for ocean focused programmes featuring interviews with Two Oceans Aquarium staff.
