Help save our turtles
The importance of the Trash Bash events is evident in the everyday work of the Two Oceans Aquarium staff members. Countless marine wildlife species they interact with have been negatively affected by plastic pollution that runs down our rivers and into our oceans. Turtle Conservation Centre

Last year, the Turtle Conservation Centre received 606 turtle hatchlings, with the vast majority showing evidence of plastic ingestion. While the Turtle Conservation Centre is working around the clock to rehabilitate these animals back to health, with plans in motion for a standalone turtle hospital as part of the Granger Bay development, removing plastic from our oceans is where change should start!
“The Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation is thrilled to be planning for a bigger facility soon to help support the rehabilitation work that the Turtle Conservation Centre is doing. However, while we wait for the doors to open, much work can be done to ensure that the oceans are safer for turtles, circumventing the necessity of rescue and rehabilitation. This is where education and beach cleanups like Trash Bash work hand-in-hand with protecting our turtles,” said Talitha Noble-Trull, Turtle Conservation Centre Manager.
Beach cleanups like the Two Oceans Aquarium’s Trash Bash events are a simple way for individuals to make a big difference by preventing plastic and other trash from being deposited in the ocean. Cleaning a beach is one of many easy and fun ways to contribute to a healthy environment.
The fight for a healthy ocean reaches beyond a single Trash Bash event – it is an endeavour the Two Oceans Aquarium encourages its ocean-loving community to take on daily. A first defence against plastic pollution in our oceans is to make more conscious decisions about everyday plastic use. This can be as simple as passing on balloons, refusing plastic straws or lids, and saying no to single-use plastic bags.
Join the Two Oceans Aquarium community for a fun beach day and help to protect the precious biodiversity in our oceans. Let’s stop the cycle of pollution and remove litter from our beaches before it endangers the marine wildlife in our coastal waters and beyond.
