A plenary discussion titled “The Contribution of Art to Opening Dialogue Between Population Groups” is part of the Willie Bester and Wolf Werdigier exhibition “Dialogue” at Art.b. Gallery. It takes place on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 4:45 for 5:00 PM.
This discussion explores how art fosters dialogue in societies where people often live in “bubbles” separated by history, experience, and trauma. Open conversations about these experiences are crucial in preventing division and mistrust. Without dialogue, past traumas can be exploited for political gain, further deepening social fractures.
The evening will begin with an introduction by Willie Bester, presenting two or three artworks that illustrate how art can break barriers and encourage meaningful conversations. This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring:
- Marlene le Roux, CEO of Artscape Theatre Centre, Cape Town
- George Hull, Professor UCT, Philosophy Department
- Regina Isaacs, ex SA Heritage Resource Agency
- Philip Todres, publisher of the Art Craft + Museums Map.
- Willie Bester, artist of the exhibition, Cape Town
- Wolf Werdigier, artist of the exhibition, Vienna
Together, they will share insights on how art has successfully facilitated dialogue between different population groups.

The panel hopes that you will join in this important discussion and contribute to the conversation , surrounded by the artworks of Willie Bester and Wolf Werdigier
