The Two Oceans Aquarium 30th Birthday Trash Bash at Lagoon Beach highlights the importance of a lasting legacy for future generations. .
- The Lagoon Beach Trash Bash, this Saturday, 15 February, is an incredible opportunity for the Two Oceans Aquarium and Save a Fishie to join forces with the ocean-loving community to make an impact.
This is your chance to make a difference and be part of a positive ocean legacy. Let’s dive into the spirit of care and community by lending a hand in cleaning up Lagoon Beach in Cape Town. Every piece of litter picked up has a positive impact on the health of the ocean.
“The Two Oceans Aquarium is excited to add the iconic Trash Bash energy to Save A Fishie’s monthly beach cleanup. Kicking our 30th Birthday year off with this collaboration for the ocean is an exciting opportunity for our team. We are looking forward to the Cape Town community joining us on Saturday and adding their voice to a lasting legacy for good,” said Phumza Jongihlathi, the Two Oceans Aquarium Community Relationship Coordinator.

“Beach cleanups are vital as they prevent plastic and other trash from being deposited into the ocean and beyond our shores. Cleaning a beach is one of many easy and fun ways of contributing to our responsibility for ensuring a healthy natural environment, while providing data for scientific studies. It is also an opportunity to connect with nature,” said Helen Lockhart, Conservation & Sustainability Manager for the Two Oceans Aquarium.

Taking part in a beach cleanup is a great opportunity for friends and families to join forces with Save a Fishie and the Two Oceans Aquarium Trash Bash team to make a difference for ocean wellness.
“Beach cleanups like the Two Oceans Aquarium’s Trash Bash events are a vital way for individuals to make a difference by preventing plastic and other trash from being deposited in the ocean. Cleaning a beach is one of many easy and fun ways to contribute to a healthy environment. It is also an opportunity to connect with nature,” – Helen Lockhart,
The fight for a healthy ocean reaches beyond a single Trash Bash event – it is a daily endeavour the Two Oceans Aquarium encourages its ocean-loving community to take on. A first defence against plastic pollution in our oceans is to make more conscious decisions around everyday plastic use. This can be as simple as passing on balloons, refusing plastic straws or lids, and saying no to single-use plastic bags.
Join the Two Oceans Aquarium community for a fun day on the beach and help to protect the precious biodiversity of our oceans. Let’s create an ocean legacy by stopping the cycle of pollution and removing litter from our beaches before it endangers the marine wildlife in our coastal waters and beyond.
