Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse is one of South Africa’s proudest musical treasures who loves his country as much as he does performing.
Having played his rich catalogue of music in New York and all the way home to Newtown and back again, the Soweto born-and-raised master plays KIRSTENBOSCH ON SUNDAY 17TH FEBUARY for the first time ever .
Kirstenbosch is where Mabuse will delight the crowd of music lovers . “In over 45 years in the music business I have never performed ever at KIRSTENBOSCH ,” Mabuse says. “To get the opportunity do this has left me humbled and feeling great! I hear it has such a magic feel about the venue, green lawn and the majestic mountain as a backdrop.and an amazing music loving audience.
My band are really excited to do the show,” remarked Sipho ,”we are coming to perform and we will have some musical surprises in store for the audiences as well”.
2013 has started with a performance at AFCON for the opening ceremony as well as being involved in the TV series called Clash of the Choirs.

In a career that stretches all the way back to 1951, a day has not gone by where Mabuse has not been inspired to entertain. From the age of 8 drumming got him the nickname that’s stuck with him ever since. Today there are few instruments he can’t play. Flute, piano, saxophone, kalimba, alto flute, timbales and African drums all feature at some point in his repertoire, all played with the respect each deserves.
Mabuse continues to create great, original South African-born music, culminating with his most important single in 1985. “Burn Out” catapulted him to a new level of fame, turning him into a much-applauded success, this impeccably funky township disco jive jam became the first major crossover hit in South Africa, selling in excess of half a million copies.
Throughout the course of Mabuse’s near 50-year career, he has become a musical ambassador for South Africa, performing in virtually every country in Africa and touring to places such as the US, UK, France, Germany and Italy. He has also recorded and produced many legendary artists the likes of Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Ray Phiri and Sibongile Khumalo.
