Festival: AfrikaBurn

by | May 3, 2013 | News | 0 comments

AfrikaBurn is back in the Karoo for another six days.

In the seven years since its inception, the festival’s DIY ethos has spawned a community of steam-punk pioneers who combine anachronistic art and cyber technology with cutting-edge recombinant thinking. Anvil-blowing art collective The Metalheadz is back with a new assortment of quirky, defiantly pre-digital machines. The Ledhedz return to rove the dusty streets in a “Love Machine”. Other mutant vehicles include a “satellite anacroid feeder spider” bicycle, HurbyBuggalux (a pimped, stretched and steampunked VW Beetle), the Jah-driven dreaded Porcupine, the Motorised Couch Project, a mobile herb garden, the Kalahari Ferrari and a Mutant Gimp Trike. Live music includes Manouche, Crimson House Blues, Black South Easter, Ex-Hoza, Ruffest, Warongx and Shotgun Tori.

Venue:

Tankwa Karoo National Park, Northern Cape.

Price:

R450 to R800.

Date & Time:

Until May 6.
