Hunger Games star Amandla Stenberg stars as a young black female heroine in a new comic book that tackles intersectional feminism.
The comic, entitled NIOBE: She is Life, tells the story of mixed-race character, Niobe Ayutami, who is half human and half elf, the Telegraph reported.
The character in the comic book – produced by publishing company, Stranger Comics – is also on a journey to self-discovery. The 16-year-old actor has in the past been vocal about issues such as cultural appropriation and intersectional feminism. Huffington Post refers to the comic book as Stenberg’s tribute “to all badass black women”. Stranger Comics has also published book series, I Am Mixed and I Am.
“I was drawn to give voice to Niobe and co-write her story because her journey is my journey. I connect to her mixed racial background and quest to discover her innate powers and strengths, to learn who she truly is,” Stenberg said in a statement obtained by The Huffington Post .
The comic is scheduled for release on November 4 2015.
