Andrew Cooper – Artist’s Statement

“With some of the world’s most magnificent landscapes and seascapes on my doorstep, it is easy to see why the impetus behind my art is the unspoilt beauty of South Africa. My large-scale canvasses not only showcase the splendour of nature, but also harness the essence of this unique setting. My artwork is characterized by light and mood, and my mastery emerges in the fine details and rendering of perspective. Paying tribute to the natural scenery, my compositions draw the observer into seemingly boundless visual depths.”

“My paintings have generally showcased the beauty and splendour of our mountains and sea, especially in the Western Cape. A driving theme behind my work is also to remind viewers how precious and fragile our natural environment is… hence the title of this exhibition “Unspoilt.”

My wish is for us all to cherish & protect these unspoilt areas; and if within your means to help rehabilitate areas that have become increasingly compromised by human activity and population growth that they may be transformed back to their former glory. We all live in a beautiful country; let our children and visitors enjoy it as we have done for generations to come …”

“I hope that my exhibition of paintings will lift your spirits and touch your hearts.”

Andrew will be demonstrating his painting technique in the gallery every weekend for the duration of the exhibition.
