Join Art Formes Gallery to celebrate their current exhibition Sanctity, with an in-depth conversation between exhibiting photographer Paul Weinberg and human rights lawyer and social justice activist Pooven Moodley discussing the connection between Spirituality and Land in South Africa.
The title of the talk is Spirituality & Land. The photo above is of Paul Weinberg, inhaling holy smoke at the end of the Shembe Church pilgrimage in 2001
You will also be able to view the exhibition SANCTITY – SPIRITUALITY AND CLAY – Paul Weinberg & Sbonelo Luthuli. Spirituality is a primordial facet of the human condition – a dig towards some ancient imperative to make meaning from the world.
“Life is the binding and connecting way … if you are alive, you are connected to everything that one has around us and that oneness is the land … the land owns us.” Bob Randal.

Art Formes is the first African gallery purely dedicated to contemporary African sculpture, showcasing previously marginalised mediums that have been a rich source of undocumented artistic expression on the African continent.
Founded in 2021 by Sorbonne-trained art historian Olivia Barrell as both gallery and publishing house, Art Formes published its inaugural volume two years later, CLAY FORMES, on clay and ceramics within contemporary South African art. As a result, Art Formes has emerged as the pioneering voice on contemporary African clay, spearheading a growing appreciation for this sculptural medium and paving the way for the launch of their permanent gallery, now open at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock.
