The Arts Round Up today focuses on several group exhibitions, as galleries showcase a selection of work to holiday makers visiting the mother city. It highlights the need to pick up a copy of the 2025 Art Craft + Museums Map (or online) to find your way to the art hot spots in Cape Town.

This is a selection of interesting and exciting group exhibitions, currently on in Cape Town, that will give you an excellent overview of South African art and artists
The Cape Gallery has their annual Summer Salon featuring paintings, watercolours, graphics, sculptures and ceramics. Enjoyed the fact that some works refer to holiday destinations – the reason for the painting of Kalk Bay by Tyrone Appollis above. For information about the full range of artists exhibiting, see Summer Salon Group Show at The Cape Gallery. Besides the work in the Summer Salon there is the wonderful selection of works in the gallery, including artwork from owner Gail Dorje’s private collection.
The AVA Gallery has a group exhibition titled Fabrics of Society, curated by Nani Mntonintshi in the Main Gallery. This is a wonderfully diverse array of wonderfully textured sculptures and varied artworks and installations, reflecting the theme of social cohesion and identity. At the AVA Gallery there are also a ‘group’ of 3 solo exhibitions to add to your visit. See AVA Gallery – opening of four new exhibitions.
Art.b in Belville has Uncurated Group Exhibition 2024 with over 40 artists showing their work. The gallery calls the show ‘an experience’. The selection of work is generally modestly priced – a wonderful opportunity to find a special Christmas present!
Clementina Ceramics has an exhibition titled Earth and Thread showing the work
of textile artist Yda Walt and ceramicist Clementina van der Walt. Enjoyed watching a visitor on opening day curating her own selection of work, selecting ceramic vessels to go on the fabric table cloth she had chosen. See also Earth and Thread.
Not mentioned on the Arts Round Up, but group exhibitions of interest would include the following that caught my attention.
Summer III at Ebony/Cuirated Cape Town, THK Gallery exhibition titled Light + Space II and Hamilton Gallery – Revamped and Refreshed for Holiday Season – all showing a broad selection of their artists work.
It’s that time of the year – so with your 2025 Art Craft + Museums Map at hand or downloaded on your cell, get out there and ENJOY!
