The synergy and fusion where fashion and fabric designs inspire the art form

ArtSoko exhibition opening this Saturday at Clementina Ceramics studio focuses on the fusion between art and fashion.

This was the brief sent out to the group of artists participating in this group exhibition:

“Some of the world most famous designers have made garment and jewelry collections based on their inspiration from artists i.e. the Warhol inspired Marilyn dress by Gianni Versace and the Mondrian dress by Yves Saint Laurent, to name a few.

Closer to home, Artists like Yinka Shonibare collaborated with Stephen Jones for London fashion week, Malick Sidibe influenced designer brands like Nicholas Kirkwood and Laetitia Ky worked with brands like L’Oreal Paris and H&M .

On the fabric front, Laduma Ngxokolo’s MAXHOSA and Sindiso Khumalo use of traditional African textile patterns and techniques have garnered global attention.

  • The fusion between art and fashion is a celebration of the world’s diverse cultural heritage .

The intention of this exhibition is to turn the above praxis of artist inspiring fashion on its head and instead ask the artist to produce a (body of) work inspired by fashion or fabric to experience the synergy and fusion where fashion and fabric designs inspire the art form.”

You will have to visit ArtSoko to see this inspired collection of work at Clementina Ceramics!
