The Artvark Online Charity Auction was the idea of artists and Artvark owners Theresa Jo and CP Wessels. Their concern is about the hard times artists are going through, and feeling the economic pinch, they thought of a great way to benefit artists and the poor and homeless.
- The Auction idea where artists and gallery reduce their prices to accommodate more accessible sales was initiated.
- The charity will receive the proceeds above the starting bid.
The artists were amazing in their responses and discounted offers and it was with great excitement that the Auction started to take shape over the Lockdown period.
The painter Peter van Straten, who has a strong following in Belgium reduced his work by R30 000 (See photo above, Lot 38). The young sculptor Robert Rorich with R10 000, and landscape painter Du Toit Schabort halved all his prices to mention only a few.
Apart from the Auction, concurrent discounted prices are offered by many artists exhibiting at Artvark to make their work more accessible to all budgets.
These reductions can be seen on Artvark’s website.
Benefitting Muizenberg CAN
The benefitting charity for our online auction is the local Muizenberg CAN.
Please support the Auction, in the first 24 hours an amount of R8000 was already secured for CAN!
The Online Charity Auction is now open for pre-bidding on Facebook and on the Artvark website. The auction features 60 specially selected artists works, ranging from painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, textiles and fibre art.
Muizenberg Community Action Network (CAN) is a team of more than 150 volunteers from Muizenberg (Cape Town, South Africa) coming together to take care of each other as a collective in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
They also work closely with communities in their neighbouring under-resourced areas and have a collaborative relationship with Vrygrond United 4 Change and Amava Oluntu.
Together, we are united in our response and are facing the challenges head on as a collective.
The main auction will take place on Facebook on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of June at 6pm to 9:30pm.
