ALL GALLERY SPACES
‘Guilt I ?’ Holger Maik Mertin – 17 & 18 June 2022

In this activist performance Holger Maik Mertin deals with the roles he finds himself in as German post-2nd World War citizen and as a(n alien white male ???) performer in South Africa. The interactive 36-hour performance focusses on getting (back) in touch with the basic elements of life – earth, wind, air, water, fire. For this occasion the AVA will be switched off electronically.

In „Guilt I?“ an analogue utopian space is being created upon the core of AVA’s architectural & artistic structure.
Walk-in any time from 12:00 on Friday to 23:59 on Saturday.
Holger Maik Mertin’s 2022 Art Residency is funded by Kunststiftung NRW, German arts council.

Public Ecology Mini Film Festival – 22-25 June 2022

Public ecology’ is the idea that to address our complex and overlapping environmental issues we need to develop collaborative and integrative ways of thinking and doing things across many differentAVA Happenings disciplinary boundaries.

It also suggests that ecology is something that we are part of, rather than being something that exists separately, or elsewhere. That we are as much intertwined in the network of relationships that governs the natural world, as we are in those that influence our social and political lives.

The Public Ecology Mini Film Festival brings together a selection of art films, animations, documentaries and sound work that highlight our growing awareness of these many dynamic relationships, especially within an urban context, offering creative engagements with some of the biggest challenges of our time.

2023 OPEN CALL

Calling curators and artists! If you’ve noticed the AVA programme looking better than ever, we encourage you to continue proposing exhibitions that originate from collaboration and cooperation amongst artists and curators.

“In 2021 we ran our first series of ArtReach Conscious Curating Co-productions, which is a successful continuation of our 170-year tradition of supporting exhibitions that promote the discursive and experimental nature of contemporary art.

This year’s call for exhibitions in 2023 continues to encourage curators and artists to propose group exhibitions* that explore collaboration and cooperation in different ways, opening up space for inclusive and engaging conversations.

As our intended publication five decades of AVA archives will come to fruition soon, we are especially interested in exhibition proposals that activate archives, ours or others, too. Apply now!”
