Marilyn Southey captures a wide range of subjects that excite her senses.
Having spent many years enthralled by London life, Marilyn has formed a different kind of appreciation for the shimmering coastlines that are synonymous with Cape Town. By method of painting and printmaking, Marilyn isolates moments within the bustle to capture life beside the seaside.
Marilyn says:
“I have lived in land-locked places for most of my life. Now that I am able to have time in Cape Town each year, I am becoming more familiar with the sea and the excitement it stirs in the hearts and minds of the young and old who visit its shores. I hope to convey in small part, my delight at the images that catch my attention from day to day in this lovely part of the world.”
Marilyn studied art and architecture in London, first at the Hornsey College of Art and subsequently at Westminster University before returning to Africa for some years. She has held solo exhibitions in London and France and has participated in Royal Academy Summer exhibitions and various shows at the Mall Galleries. Marilyn has received several SASA awards for her print works.
