The Big Issue: Vendor Art

Check out the latest artworks created by our talented Big Issue vendors in the November edition.

The Big Issue offers vendors therapeutic art and writing classes as part of its social development programme. They are taught by artist and facilitator Elaine Millin. These artworks are later proudly displayed in The Big Issue’s on-line gallery – and some are for sale. Get your own original artwork for as little as R250, unframed.

BigIssueVendorArt-NomulongeloOur featured artist with work up in the online gallery this month is Nomalungelo Menzeleleli, 49. It’s her artwork, Granadilla Trees, that you see. Vendor number #1317, her pitch is Kenilworth Centre, Claremont.

Nomalungelo believes that presentation is key to success – as well as hard work of course. She believes that the way you are dressed and how you carry yourself will determine whether people respond to you or not. Nomalungelo resides in Philippi with three of her five children. She enjoys attending The Big Issue art classes as it relaxes her and gives her something creative to do.

You can find Nomalungelo, always looking sharp, at her pitch at the Kenilworth Centre.

The latest vendor’s work – not yet online – can be seen in the 25 October to 21 November edition of The Big Issue – get your copy now.
