Boyes Drive reopens for normal traffic flow

The City of Cape Town today completed work at the site of the rockfall which affected Boyes Drive earlier this month, and the road will be open for normal traffic flow from this morning.

In order to prevent a reoccurrence, the City appointed geotechnical engineers to assess the situation and recommend remedial work. As a result, New Jersey Barriers were erected and loose debris on the mountainside was removed by abseiling workers.

‘The geotechnical engineers are now satisfied that the area is sufficiently stabilised to open the road again. We’d like to thank road users for their patience and cooperation while the road was closed,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member: Transport for Cape Town, Councillor Brett Herron.

And there are reports that whales have been spotted in False Bay!  Boyes Drive is a great vantage point…..
