Cape Town is ready to host the Cape Town Carnival on Saturday 14 March 2015 – an event which further positions the Mother City as the events capital of Africa.
Giant themed floats, thousands of musicians and performers, and more than 50 entertainment groups from communities and schools across the city are ready to dazzle crowds.
This year’s Cape Town Carnival celebrates its sixth anniversary with the theme ‘ELEMENTAL: Celebrating Fire, Water, Air and Earth’.
The Cape Town Carnival will light up the fan walk in Green Point with a parade of floats, dance routines and more than 2 000 costumed musicians and performers on 14 March 2015. Carnival-goers will have freedom of the city streets from 16:00 as they enjoy the variety of food, crafts and special children’s activities on offer. The show begins at 19:00 and this year 56 community groups will participate.
‘We are delighted to have greater involvement from our communities in this year’s carnival. This is an event for our all of residents and it allows us to celebrate our diversity and build on being an inclusive city.
‘Supporting events such as the Cape Town Carnival forms part of our efforts to position Cape Town as the events capital of Africa, in order to boost the local economy and create opportunities for our residents.
‘This is one of the most anticipated events on our calendar, and I encourage all communities to come out and enjoy the show together,’ said Councillor Bloor.
Some of the community groups that will delight spectators along the fan walk include the Aphrodite Belly Dancers from Athlone, the Bulumko High School in Khayelitsha, the Dreamcast Dance Group from Retreat, Phoenix High School in Manenberg, and the Vadhini Indian Arts Academy from Rylands.
