As always, it is an exciting challenge for the Cape Town Concert Series to secure the very finest artists available for the series – many of whom are busy with programmes and bookings in advance of two years or more.
“Each year I say we have the best yet, but somehow I feel the season ahead really will be hard to beat!” says Louise Howlett, General Manager – Cape Town Concert Series.
Here is the Cape Town Concert Series Program for Season 1 of 2020
- 22 February, 7.30pm: VIOLIN & PIANO with AVIGAIL BUSHAKEWITZ and ALBIE VAN SCHALKWYK
Avigail very kindly agreed to perform this recital with Albie exclusively for the Concert Series during a private visit to South Africa in February. Their programme will be: Hahn – Sonata for Violin and Piano, Korngold – Much Ado About Nothing, Vice by Matthijs van Dijk and, to celebrate the 250th Beethoven celebrations – the ‘Kreutzer’ Sonata.
- 21 March, 7.30pm: LGT YOUNG SOLOISTS ENSEMBLE with ALEXANDER GILMAN
When violinist Alexander Gilman is not touring the world himself he, and his pianist wife Marina, are passionately involved in a mentorship programme for young talented musicians. When they performed for the concert series last February, a plan was hatched to return with an ensemble of 12 young musicians in order that they can share in the special experience of visiting and touring in South Africa, and they have spent 2019 tirelessly fundraising for this tour. Programme to be confirmed.
- 25 APRIL, 7.30pm: NATALIA LAVROVA – VASSILY PRIMAKOV PIANO DUO
The Concert Series welcomes the return of this special piano duo who also love performing in South Africa. Their programme will be: Mozart’s Piano Quartet in G minor, Matthjis van Dijk – But all I wanna do is Dance and The ‘Trout’ quintet by Schubert. This truly is a Celebrity concert, which is hosted by the Kramer Jubilee Trust to help raise funds for the longevity of the Concert Series.
