The 5th June marks the launch of MONOPOLY Cape Town. After being voted as one of the 22 best cities in the world for the, 80th Anniversary Edition, Cape Town has now been chosen to have it’s very own regional board.
Capetonians are in for a treat! The original MONOPOLY, the fast-dealing property trading game that everybody knows and loves, is coming to our shores and creating a localised Cape Town city edition. A first for our beautiful country.
Traditionally anyone playing the legendary board game became familiar with the tourist attractions and highlights of London, the UK edition being the most widely played globally. Locations such as The Angel, Islington feature, even though this address is not in fact a street in London but a building (and the name of the road intersection it is located at).
Regional versions of MONOPOLY board game have been produced for the last 15 years and to date the game is licensed in 103 countries, with South Africa next on this illustrious list.
You are encouraged to take part in the selection process to choose which recognisable city hotspots will appear on the final board, to be on shelves around November 2015.
This kicked off on Friday, 5th June for 3 weeks, when MONOPOLY enthusiasts are invited to nominate Capetonian properties via CapeTown@winningmoves.co.uk
There will be localised ‘Community Chest’ and ‘Chance’ playing cards, so feel free to submit Capetonian phrases and words to be used for this purpose.
Dan Taylor: Head of Monopoly, Winning Moves, “Cape Town has long been on our list of regional MONOPOLY targets, and when we had the Mother City included on our anniversary edition, we knew this year was the one to bring MONOPOLY to Cape Town’s gorgeous shores. We’re extremely excited to see how it’s received and have high hopes that Cape Town will be the first of many South African MONOPOLY games to be launched in the next 3 years.”
