The Cape Town Music Academy (CTMA) is thrilled to announce the launch of its highly anticipated Cape Town Jazz Greats Homecoming Series, featuring a stellar lineup of local and international jazz musicians.
- The series kicks off on 21 March at 8pm at the Homecoming Centre (former The Fugard Theatre) with a performance by sensational young jazz singer and composer Thandeka Dladla.
Thandeka Dladla: A Rising Star in Jazz
Hailing from Johannesburg, Thandeka Dladla is a multitalented singer and composer who has been making waves in the South African jazz scene. With formal training in classical music and a BMus Jazz degree from the University of Cape Town, Thandeka’s talent has blossomed into a unique musical vision. Her debut album, Umnikelo, released in September 2023, captivated audiences with its celestial melodies and artistic expression.
Cape Town Jazz Greats Homecoming Series Lineup
The CTMA’s Cape Town Jazz Greats series runs until 31 October and features an impressive lineup of local and international jazz stars, including:
• Thandeka Dladla Quintet -21 March at Homecoming Centre at 8pm and 30 March at Guga S’thebe Cultural Centre in Langa at 4pm
• Kesivan Naidoo and The Lights (Switzerland) – 10 May, 8pm at Baxter Concert Hall
• The Little Giants, celebrating 25 years under the mentorship of George Werner – 24 May at Guga S’thebe Cultural Centre in Langa at 4pm and on 27 June at Homecoming Centre at 8pm
• The McCoy Mrubata Quartet, featuring Grammy-winning Gary Wittner (USA) – 25 July at Homecoming Theatre at 8pm, 26 July at Cafe Roux in Noordhoek at 7pm, 27 July Joseph Stone Auditorium in Athlone at 4pm
• Tutu Puoane and Ewout Pierreux (Belgium) – 8 August at Youngblood Africa at 8pm and 10 August at Guga S’thebe Cultural Centre in Langa at 4pm
• The Mandla Mlangeni Quintet, featuring Yonela Mnana -28 August at Youngblood Africa at 8pm, 30 August at Guga S’thebe Cultural Centre in Langa at 4pm and 30 August at Josephe Stone Auditorium in Athlone at 4pm
• The Feya Faku Quartet – 28 September at Homecoming Centre at 8pm, 27 September at Cafe Roux in Noordhoek at 4pm and 28 September at Joseph Stone Auditorium in Athlone at 4pm
• The Kyle Shepherd Trio – 31 October at Homecoming Centre at 8pm
