The popular Mayor’s Craft Market makes its return to the Cape Town Civic Centre, where locally handmade and pre-packaged goods will be for sale on the concourse level of the Cape Town Civic Centre.

‘I am quite excited to welcome participating crafters to this year’s first market. Last year we had 44 crafters and City staff came out in large numbers to connect with and support these artisans. This market is a powerful platform for promoting social cohesion and generating income to support families and build small businesses. The support over the years has been greatly appreciated and we look forward to visiting each stand next week,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.

The Mayor’s Craft Market is part of the Mayor’s Skills Development and Poverty Alleviation Programme and it offers registered vendors a free opportunity to sell their goods to City staff, as well as members of the public visiting the Civic Centre. The market’s impact on local livelihoods, since its first run in September 2010, has been profound.

  • Products sold on the market included pillows, duvets, succulent pot plants, savouries, underwear, leather hand bags and shoes, jewellery, smoked mackerel, ladies and kiddies dresses, decoupage table cloths and more.
