Ocean Superheroes Campaign
The Two Oceans Aquarium invites everyone to visit and experience its Ocean Superheroes campaign this winter school holiday. The Aquarium has strict Covid-19 protocols in place so that visitors of all ages can enjoy its bold and vibrant Ocean Superheroes campaign, which showcases the spectacular superpowers of marine animals. With this campaign the Aquarium calls on human Ocean Superheroes to unite and take action for the future health of the ocean.
The Ocean Superheroes campaign has stealthily infiltrated the Aquarium like a good superhero should! But it couldn’t stay hidden for long. Visitors to the Aquarium will love the new engaging comic book-style Ocean Superhero signage featuring animals and their superpowers:
• The Magnificent Mudskipper can live both on land and in water!
• The Creative Octopus can change shape and colour in an instant!
• The Brilliant Boxfish has its own suit of armour!
There are 18 superheroes to find in the Aquarium, all with amazing abilities and stories to share.
As in every superhero story, there must also be villains. And for the Ocean Superhero campaign, this is also unfortunately true. The campaign exposes the Ocean Villains, like balloons, plastic bags and ghost nets, and highlights how these villains are responsible for the deaths of thousands upon thousands of marine animals every year.
But wait! That’s not all. This superhero story would not be complete without mentioning the human Ocean Superheroes who rehabilitate sea turtles and those who cut the nooses off seals and disentangle other marine animals in the V&A Waterfront.
YOU can be an Ocean Superhero
And lastly, but perhaps the most important messages that this campaign is bringing to visitors to the Aquarium and its social media, is how the general public can be Ocean Superheroes by using less plastic, choosing sustainably sourced seafood from responsible fisheries and taking part in beach cleanups.
Along with the Ocean Superheroes campaign, the Aquarium remains a fun, safe, and educational place to visit for young and old, and is the perfect place to have an indoor family outing these holidays. Learn more about the animals that call the South African coastline home by visiting the I&J Ocean Exhibit, and be sure to stop off at the Save Our Seas Foundation Shark Exhibit and all of the other myriad of exhibits too! Keep the little ones entertained and edutained, brush up on your marine heritage knowledge, and do all this while exploring a safe, indoors environment.
