Art on Paper XIV opens on 11 March and Cheryl Rumback, owner of Kalk Bay Modern, talks us through this annual exhibition on the Sanlam Arts Round Up.
Listen to the Sanlam Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm every Friday at 17h30
Chery begins by telling us why she presents this annual focus on Art on Paper. She explains that it’s a medium she loves and which she feels is under-rated, She indicates that this is “one of our best shows each year”. Also working with print workshops, such as the Artist Proof Studio and Southern Atlantic Press, she has access to showcase a wide selection of work.
She lists some of the artists on exhibition and a more complete list is given below.
The variety of works on paper is huge and cover everthing from collage through to mixed media in many variations. One example is Barbara Wildenboer’s intricate collage – Barbara obviously is one of the “many more”..
Art on Paper XIV is accessible both visually and price-wise. It’s a great opportunity for young collectors to buy works that are affordable.
Cheryl emphasises that her gallery space is definitely not intended to be a pristine white cube. Yes, there are the distractions of ceramics and other homewares to provide a sense of how the artworks fit into a home environment. And the view over the harbour and False Bay is always a bonus!
Get to Kalk Bay Modern and enjoy the exhibition, the particularly welcoming ambience AND the view!
