Sanlam Arts Round Up with Clare Patrick

Clare Patrick, on the Sanlam Arts Round Up, gives us insights into Horizon and Vessel, the two new exhibitions at Boshendall Manor House in association with the Norval Art Foundation.

Listen to the Sanlam Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm every Friday at 16h10

Clare Patrick, Exhibitions Manager at the Norval Foundation, is also the curator of Horizon – a selection of a century of landscape art from the extensive Sanlam Art Collection. She talks us though theHorizon, Clare Patric process of deciding on the scan and scope of the exhibition and also representing the the different approaches by artists to the landscape. Variety was certainly the key and exposing the viewer to different media from traditional through to video.

Underlying the choice, was also the pertinent issue of land in the South African context.

You will certainly need to visit Horizon to experience the selection of work and the conversations set up in terms of the grouping of the artworks in this elegant gallery space.

Horizon is accompanied by the exhibition of ceramics entitled Vessel – a group exhibition celebrating local ceramic artists. This exhibition is curated by Ally Martinez, also of the Norval Foundation.  The contrast is interesting – moving from form to a tactile object. Although a small exhibition, it is visually dense. The other interesting aspect is that in this exhibition the works are all for sale.

These exhibitions both contemplate ideas of humanity’s relationship to land and nature, which is similarly celebrated in the Boschendal Gallery Shop, featuring a range of hand selected local products for purchase.

Lots of good reasons to visit Boschendal Wine Estate to enjoy the landscape both real and virtual, with fringe benefits like good food, excellent coffee and wine tasting on this historic estate.
